Blog Post #14 Cake tasting and booking someone to bake your wedding cake.

Updated: Apr 4, 2022

This should be done at least 6 months in advance.

The sky really is the limit when deciding on your wedding cake and/or desserts for your wedding reception. Wedding cakes traditionally can get very expensive, so you will want to make sure you do your homework and research cake styles and how much they cost before you meet with your cake artist. Yes, cakes, cookies, cupcakes and fancy desserts are like art and the people who create them are ususally super creative people. You will also need to check with your venue to make sure they don't have an in house baker. Some venues do not allow outside people to bring in your wedding cake or treats that you will be serving at your reception. Our daughter's venue allowed outside bakers to bake the treats and also come in and set up. She opted to have a baker design a small cake in an Indian theme for them to cut. The rest of the desserts were made by me as I am a certified cottage baker. I created cupcakes for the reception in 4 flavors and also made petit fours and elephant cookies to honor Dylan's Indian heritage. This was such fun to be able to offer these treats to their guests to give them a glimpse into Dylan's life in India. The elephant is a sign of good luck so that's why we made elephant cookies and also tiny cakes that went in Indian treat buckets. Tiny cakes are also a tradition I India and made for fun favors that we had at each place setting. Remember: just like with your meals, be creative and try and incorporate your favorite dessert as this will be fun for the bride and groom. And if the bride and groom are happy and having fun, so will your guests!

Here are some suggestions for alternative desserts: Cupcakes, Cookies, Mini cakes or pies, mini cheese cakes, Churros, Macaroons, Cake Pops, Assorted Bars, doughnuts, Ice cream bars or Sundays, or a candy buffet.
