Blog Post #15 Booking Music for your Ceremony.

Booking music for your wedding should be done at least 6 months ahead. We all want our special Day to reflect, not only our personal style, but also our music style as well. Where can you find someone to do music for your wedding? We happen to have quite a few family members who are very musically inclined. If your family falls short in this area, asking your church or college where you attend for recommendations usually works well. Someone usually knows someone who plays piano, guitar or violin. So networking really is your best bet to find a great musician. Make sure you listen to the person yourself or get a sample of their music before making a decision to hire them. How many songs do you need? And does one person have to do all the music for your ceremony? A good rule of thumb is: Music before the service, the processional, during the service and during the recessional.. We ended up with 4 songs for our daughter's wedding. Most people have music as people are being seated, a song for the wedding party to walk down the isle to, a song in the middle of the ceremony for lighting a unity candle, sand ceremony or whatever else you choose to do as a couple, and one for the recessional as the wedding party exits. Music can really personalize a wedding. We happened to have "Uncle Mike", who is a seasoned pianist and also has written several original pieces of music that we were blessed enough to have do music at our daughter's wedding. Our son is also a gifted guitar player, so incorporating meaningful music in our daughter's wedding was easy and also made for a wonderfully personal addition to the ceremony, Choose songs that are meaningful to you. You don't have to choose something traditional at all and something different is really fun for your guests. One thing we are adding when my son gets married is a stringed quartet that will play for the guests while the wedding party takes photos after the ceremony and before the reception. The sky really is the limit and if all else fails, you can use pre-recorded music instead. Just remember, it is your big day so pick the songs you both love and it will make your day that much more special.
