Blog Post #16 Choosing a DJ for your Reception

Choosing a DJ should be done at least 6 months or more before your wedding. Networking with other people who have recently been to a wedding or have had their own wedding recently is your best bet. Our son and soon-to be daughter in law chose their DJ because her parents had been to a wedding that this person was working at. When our daughter got married they chose a friend to DJ who did it for a living and was involved with their swing dance community. Make sure you pick a DJ that can deliver the style of music you and your guests will love. Our daughter and son in law are both avid swing dancers so the music at the reception was a huge part of their big day. They took a ton of time creating a song list for the DJ that reflected both their personalities and would be wonderful for their friends who all are swing dancers. What songs do you need to make sure you choose ahead of time? Make sure you choose a song for your first dance as a couple and one for the Bride and her Father and the Groom and his Mother to dance to . You can also select a fun song for the first dance with the whole wedding party. Remember: the more fun you both have at your reception, the more fun your guests will have so taking the time to plan and prepare an extensive play list will be well worth the time it takes to create it. And everyone who comes to celebrate you will have a fantastic time!
