Finding the perfect dress that reflects your personality is one of the most fun and most stressful parts of your big day as there are so Many questions to be answered.
What is your style? Vintage or modern? What is your budget? Will my dress match the style of our wedding? What is the style of our wedding??? If you are dancers would a short extra dress be best to change into for the reception or should you wear a short dress for the whole thing? Who to bring with you to the dress fitting appointment? Should I buy used or new or make my own?
Remember: this is YOUR day. Whatever style of dress you makes you feel special, is what you should gravitate towards. There will be tons of people to please but in the long run what the bride wants should drive the dress selection.
My daughter and her husband were avid swing dancers. But she wanted a dress that would be fancy enough and fit the mood of the day as her husband is from India. So having gold in her dress was important, as this was an accent color in the wedding theme. My daughter also loves to sew and wanted to create her own dress. Since they had a limited budget, she went used on the main long fancy dress and made a shorter dress for the reception. This way she would get the best of both worlds and still be able to dance the night away in comfort. We did not get the "She said yes to the dress experience" but this worked well for her and she looked lovely in both dresses. She also used my veil and took it apart to make her own unique person that fit her style. This was her something old and was a huge money saver. There are tons of ways to purchase a used dress both from boutiques, antique stores and used wedding dress sites. Research and you will find the style you like. It would be good go to a wedding dress fitting so you know what styles you like and don't like if you want to buy used. And I recommend not bringing too many people to the dress fitting. Too many opinions can get confusing.
You should work on securing a dress fitting appointment 1 year to 14 months in advance as it can sometimes take 6 months to get a dress in. REMEMBER to have FUN in this process and do not stress. IF YOU ARE HAPPY YOUR GUESTS WILL BE TOO!
