Blog Post #8 Selecting a Color Scheme and Theme for your Wedding

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

One of the most important and fun things you need to decide is your color palette for your wedding. This will in turn help you decide what color the bridesmaids dresses will need to be and the groomsmen's suits and ties and also will dictate how you will decorate as well. Selecting a color scheme is usually decided by the bride, although my son in law did have a specific opinion, and wanted something light in color, so our daughter went with a sea foam green for the bridesmaids dresses with dark navy blue suits for the groomsmen with sea foam green ties. This suit color is very popular right now and lends itself to matching almost anything. Sometimes an extra color is also added, which for my daughter and son in law, ended up being Gold. Since my son in law is from India the Gold was a great fit and had significant meaning to him as a bride in India usually wears quite a bit of Gold on her wedding day. My daughter also incorporated Gold stitching in her wedding dress and had Gold in some of the table decor.

The sky is the limit with what you can do with color so get creative and have fun! My daughter loves vintage things so we did end up incorporating a lot of vintage tablecloths as well as flower vases along with brass antique candlesticks they chose for the tables. There are so many fun items that will reflect your personalities once you start looking, and there are tons of places that sell used wedding decorations to allow you to keep within a budget. We got most of our items on E-bay and Amazon. There are also a ton of wedding websites that cater specifically to wedding decor where you can find everything you need for your big day including table coverings and napkins if needed.

Some people also include a theme in with their big day. My daughter's was Indian/Vintage.

Some suggestions are: Travel theme, Vintage, Contemporary, Boho, Beach, Rustic, Fall/Pumpkin Patch, Christmas/Winter, Farm Fresh, Moroccan, Nautical, Nature/Outdoors, Desert Chic, Secret Garden, The 20's, The 50's, Marvel, Great Gatsby, Harry Potter, barn, Winery, Pop Art, Modern Art, Fine Art, Old Schoolhouse, Literary, Rock a Billy, Glitter and Gold, Citrus, climbing/Adventure, Organic, Glamorous, Tropical, Industrial, Preppy.

Remember: If you have fun with the colors and the theme so will your guests!
